Shropshire to Alaska
Sittin in the airport thinking
Some randomness while sitting in the airport.
My work outfit while on the treefarm in Shropshire. Thank you TD for the shoes, pants, socks, gloves, and shirt. I provided the hat and glasses. They served me well as I tromped through boggy areas, nettles, blackberries, sticks and ticks. I only had one major nettle sting incident while wearing this outfit. I was less fortunate just walking around the farm or running in my short little running shorts. OOch. Still… I’ll take a nettle sting or a blackberry scrape over poison oak any day.
I’ve had a long layover in SeaTac waiting for my flight to Sitka. I’ve spent much of my time looking for somewhere to watch COPA America matches. At one point this large party of folks sat next to me. All 8 of them promptly got on their phones. Then I looked around and every person within 5 rows of seats from me was on a device. Every single one. Made me sad. Sadder was when I heard one of the ladies make a comment about how all the guys were in some chat group. So… they were sitting next to each other communicating on a chat group. Sigh. Makes me sad. Of course, right now I’m on a device. Yeah I know. Hypocrite. I’d prefer if you’d call me a Hippopotamus.
Friends are good things. I like hanging out with KS and not getting to run with her in Shropshire did bum me out a bit. I still had a great time but there were times when I was like… I bet she’d be laughing on this nasty uphill. Ah well. Other times I thought about how Katie would have loved the hike up the valley into the oaks. Green and gorgeous with butterflies all over. Still all good. TD and MW are excellent hosts and made the trip absolutely amazing. And then there’s the whole mom thing. She loved England and walking the footpaths. I do wonder if I covered some of the same ground she covered. A lot of important women in my life it seems.
Thankfully KS was willing to put up with me quite a bit this week. She’s got good energy and her daughters are strong. It’s good to see they have real, thought-out opinions… on almost everything but especially on women’s rights/equal rights. It’s time for the youth to take over and kick out the old established rhetoric. The world has changed. Time for the leadership to change.
PP is gem too. Another strong woman. Ran with her this morning. She’s been fish-sitting and they look quite happy. As her hubby said, they may not want to go back. She’s given me a ride to the airport for both trips. She also proactively went down to my place to water my plants. My succulents have revived! Back from near death! It’s good to have friends that will just help you out without a big hullaballoo. We chatted about generosity this morning. I guess I’m generally a giving person, but I enjoy it a lot more when I know the recipient is a giver… maybe even a giver that is frequently overlooked. I think sometimes we take the consistent givers for granted. They do it so frequently that we just don’t even notice. If you can think of someone like that in your life - give them a big thank you hug.
Well, in theory I’m boarding soon and I better make the final pit stop. Always good to get on a plane with an empty bladder. Soon I’ll be in Alaska and I’ll either take a taxi for 1.5 miles or I’ll walk. We’ll see how I feel at 11:00 PM.
Until next time… remember to thank someone. If they like hugs, make it a thank you hug.
